A Registered Nurse II (RN II) is a fully proficient RN who provides nursing care in a skilled and effective manner. Applying appropriate decision making skills exhibits competence in the technical, interpersonal and cognitive skills required to independently and safely manage routine patient assignment. The RN II establishes a plan of care, sets goals, determines priorities, and provides care within established standards of practice. External candidates can be hired into this level with a minimum of one year of nursing experience.

The scope of responsibility, duties and accountability at the facility department and position levels including knowledge and practice of the clinical/technical skills necessary to the position consistent with the Nurse Practice Act. Nursing job duties are to meet the Nurse Practice Act, Title 22, The Joint Commission and the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care and the Plan for Provision of Care to Patients, and other regulatory requirements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides and accurately documents direct and indirect patient care services that ensures the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients in a timely manner.
  • Provides care and patient education on disease prevention and restorative measures.
  • Provides direct and indirect care services, including, but not limited to, the administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care.
  • Performs skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy and the initiation of peripheral venous access.
  • Observes signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications/treatments, general behavior, and/or general physical condition.
  • Demonstrates refined assessment skills, integrating appropriate data sources to assess the signs, symptoms, reactions, behaviors, or general appearance to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics.
  • Plans and implements individualized patient care based on observations. Implements appropriate reporting, referrals and care in accordance with standardized procedures. Initiates emergency procedures when indicated.
  • Provides care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds. Identifies patient's readiness for learning and ability to follow directions/instructions and give consent.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and is able to identify and make special adjustments as required to the specific populations needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family and condition needs.
  • Identifies and assesses patient safety concerns with respect to age and developmental considerations. Intervenes to provide a safe environment and evaluates effectiveness of intervention for patient.

Department-Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains specialty-related and department-required competencies.
  • Maintains clinical knowledge of perioperative equipment and current techniques.
  • Applies AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses) standards of practice, Nurse Practice Act, and policies and procedures to assure delivery of quality care..
  • Demonstrates accurate and complete documentation in CS-Link that reflect safe and appropriate care applying the nursing process.

Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts

Call Requirement: 1 weekday/week and 1 weekend day/month.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate's degree in Nursing (required).
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (preferred).

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current and valid CA RN license is required.

Experience:

  • One year of OR experience (required).
