Structural Intern - Summer 2026
Overview
ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB is seeking a Bridge Structures Intern to join our dynamic and growing Structures group in our Hauppauge, NY office during Summer 2026. In this position, you would assist in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects from railroad to highway.
Assist in engineering design and detailing of highway, pedestrian and railroad bridges and other structures
Collaborate with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner
Assist in development of planning and engineering solutions
Assist in data mining and visualization
Perform analysis of data or calculations
Perform field data collection and other on-site project support activities
Prepare written documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports
Skills and Abilities
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
Self-motivated with attention to detail
A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve
Knowledge of drawing and mapping tools such as AutoCAD and GIS
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required
Qualifications
Must be currently enrolled in a bachelor or master’s civil engineering program
Our best estimate of the hourly salary range for this position located in New York is $19/hr - $28/hr. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
